Dear friends and supporters of the West Somerset Food Cupboard,
Where does the time go? It is two years since the Local Pantry was set up. Every year 100 different households can benefit from fresh food that would otherwise have gone to waste for a £4 weekly membership fee. 90%of our customers are on low income (from employment or benefits) – earning 60% or less of the median UK household income. The Local Pantry really helps stop families from falling into food insecurity.
No Leftover Food Goes to Waste
We are grateful to all our volunteers, who work hard to serve our community. Every month one volunteer, Linda, cooks up a tasty dish using whatever ingredients are available in the Local Pantry. She shares her recipe and offers a tasty sample to our members. Last month was Pizza Time!
Linda’s recipe is available on our Facebook page.
This Month’s Shortages:
- Hot chocolate
- Coffee
- Individual small cereal boxes
- Individual fruit pots
- Small cartons of juice
- Multipacks of crisps
Thank-you this month to the generous people of West Somerset including Good Vibe Veg, Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club, Amanda-Louise Funeral Services, Lidl, Alcombe Co-op and everyone who donated food, money and time. You all make a difference to local lives.
Finally. This April emergency food parcels have reached many different sectors of our community as the top three local organisations we have supported are The Hope Centre, West Somerset College and Home-Start West Somerset.
We’ve also filled 200 shopping bags with nutritious food, which would have gone to waste, for local families.
